Design thinking promotes requisite behaviors for acculturating an innovation mindset throughout an organization. It requires a human-centered focus and persistent implementation in order to increase innovation output and desirability of solutions. Design thinking is not merely a methodology for ‘brainstorming’, but a process for the cultivation and development of ideas into tangible strategies and outcomes.
There are three main phases in the design thinking process:
- Inspire
- Ideate
- Implement
The process moves from a concrete challenge to abstract thinking as key insights are uncovered and back to the concrete with tangible and testable solutions. The deliberate journey of design thinking into the abstract unshackles the process from conventional constraints and expands the range of acceptable ideas. It enables deep connection with underlying truths, and by doing so increases the likelihood of innovative outcomes.
